Statement on Derek Chauvin Trial

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On April 20, 2021, the jury found Derek Chauvin guilty of all three charges in the murder of George Floyd.  This is a step with regard to holding police accountable and leading toward police reform.  Like many of you, we are exhaling a breath that we have been holding in for years.  Although this is a step, it is not justice. Justice would be George Floyd alive. Now, the focus needs to shift to changing the entire system. 

Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with George Floyd, the entire Floyd family, and everyone that has been affected by police brutality in any way. Although a guilty verdict has been rendered, the fight is not over. We must continue the fight against these injustices to ensure social justice in our communities. Let’s do the work.
